I've been dieting, lost almost 3 stone, which is good.
But all the way through Something Rotten I was ravenous!
I haven't eaten Battenburg for years :-(
Want some

Battenberg is not so much for eating as experiencing. I used to peel off the marzipan (at this point the four squares of sponge cake came apart, as the jam was not a very good glue). I would lick off the jam, eat the sponges, alternating colours, then roll up the marzipan like a short, fat Swiss roll, and nibble it. :-)

That line does look familiar, but it isn't in the song that I was thinking of (which was an old-time Music Hall song titled 'A Little Of What You Fancy (Does You Good)', sung by an old-tiem artiste by the name of Marie Lloyd...), at least not according to the version that's on a CD in my collection: The rhyme used for "does you good" THERE is "it's understood" instead...

I used to handle Battenberg Cake like that, too, but my mother broke me of the habit by refusing to buy any more of it unless & until I promised to eat it "properly"...
I used to take the frosting/creme center out of my sandwich cookies (oreos, wafers and such), roll it up into a ball, eat all the cookies, and save the creme for last. I also tended to eat the bottom half of cupcakes first, saving the top with all the frosting for last.
Never tried Battenberg cake. Might have to try making one some time.

I used to eat sandwich biscuits the same, I dont now more recently because of the diet but before that I found the cream only scraped off (nice though) and I never thought to roll the marzipan, I'd nibble my way along the length, mmmmmmmmmmmm

And there's nothing nice in this house - where I am waiting for a dog to be picked up(house sitting).
I will then return to another friends house where I am cat sitting(multi-purpose...) and where there are nice things, like chocolate hobnobs. But sadly I left my crunchie bars at work on Wednesday.
Sods law dictates that I now want a crunchie, but can't be bothered going to the shop......
