I read an article in a Dutch internet newspaper about the true reasons mammoths got extinct. It was basically a translation of a BBC text.

What caught my attention though was the picture they used to illustrate the subject.

I've no idea where they got it from. But it looks sort of Ffordean.

O.K. in my day it was easier because the man with the plate camera and flash tray full of magnesium powder, could not take 24 pctures per second and so was not as common as cctv, but that is not the point.

Well, to get back on topic (kind of), to transport a mammoth wouldn't you just need some really big roller skates and a tow rope?

You'd need the mammoth, too. Right?

And probably another one - to provide the towing power!

Well, that's an interesting question. To tow a mammoth would you need another mammoth? I think we would need to work out how many horsepower equal one mammothpower and decide on the practicalities of using horses, oxen, or old Scottish grandmothers in the event we need real power.

No - I think it was stairs that foxed them.

They had existential crises; people looked and they vanished.

Lets face it, even Daleks conquered stairs - eventually. I'm sure a mammal would have worked it out in fairly short-order. Perhaps they are like cows - happy to go up stairs, but will not go down them.

Oh great, now I'm scared to go to the top floor. Maybe that is where all the cows are hiding?

Do structural engineers have to take into account the weight of lost cows when they are planning out buildings?

Our local MegaSuperMassiveMart is having a Mammoth Sale with 50% off, but they don't say which half is left.

Is lost cows a big problem where you are VM? I've checked our local neighbourhood watch newsletter, and there has been no increase here year on year, pretty static at "0" for us. Mind you none of us have very tall houses.

Is there much demand for mammoths in your neck of the woods? Or is that the reason for the sale. Although I guess that a stock of half-mammoths would be quite hard to manage, and be rather leaky.
