I know what you mean,but it may be just a shift in style that I've yet to catch up on. I've just been revisiting the early Brentford Trilogy and they still make me giggle ... and Pooley is still me even though I've given up the Wild Woodbines.

Ripped through Johannes Cabal Necromancer by Jonathan Howard then went and got the next two in the series. Same with Rivers Of London by Ben Aaronovitch, straight out and snaffled Moon Over Soho.
