Expanding a little on answer 05, both the concept and similar articles have existed for hundreds (and hundreds) of years. The actual article which is the subject of this quest could not have existed more than 55 years ago. (It was a Monday.)

No. Not really. It fits a small part of the "tool" definition, but to say "yes" would be misleading.
14 Tv aerial? No.
Much less imaginative than that.

15 Is it a coin? Yes
On Monday, 10th July 1967 New Zealand changed its change from librae, solidi and denarii to the current decimal coinage. My initial object was a bright and shiny 2008 $2 coin, but I'm sure Mr Venn would knee me in the coin purse if I failed to accept SM's skillful solution.
SM, the Crown of Conquerishousosityness and the Sceptre of Solvingitude are in the mail; the cloak I'm keeping until the weather breaks.

I instinctively define a household object as something that is much more likely to be found in a family home than elsewhere. I accept that "household object" could be used in the sense of "common, everyday object" and I did give a considered "no" to that question.
However, if wrong I'll accept my responsibility like a man (that is, I'll point out that almost certainly the government is somehow responsible.)
