The original story I read would have been about this:
The Scottish TUC and shop worker's union USDAW are calling on union members to boycott Borders Books after they sacked five workers in Glasgow for eating without permission! The store has also banned sellers of The Big Issue from its premises. Borders are no strangers to such practices. The IWW in the States have been organising a boycott of the chain since 1996 when the company sacked IWW member Mariam Fried for organising a recruitment drive amongst staff. The American United Food and Commercial Worker's Union also report that the chain, which has two stores in London as well as Brighton, Leeds and York, pursue a range of anti union tactics aimed at preventing their staff organising - so buy your books somewhere else!
IIRC, it was stuff like nibbling on carrots when preparing salads, not an all you can eat type bonanza!
Other sites I found (mostly anti-capitalist ranty ones, but there must be some truth in it...)

(this is apparently a leaked internal document)

Now I feel bad for still buying from them sometimes :o)
