The 'new' tags disappearing is a bit more problematic from where I'm sitting. I enter the forum, enter a thread, and the next time I go to the thread list *everything* is marked as read. The times it doesn't happen like that, it occurs after I've read the second thread in that session. To date, none of the tags have reappeared.

It's making it impossible (what with the amount of posts) to see what I have and haven't read so I may have to call it a day.

hate to tell you this, Bluey, but the "new" tags are all present and correct (and appearing and disappearing just as they should) on my screen...

I know what BB means ... I generally just go by the date/time (as in - when was I last in the fforum?) as the 'new' tags are extremely unreliable. I wonder if this is a browser issue, as it seems to affect people differently, and some not at all?

The only time I ever have that problem is if I try to start a new thread before I've finished reading all the old ones. For what it's worth, I have Microsoft Internet Exploder (as I like to call it) version 6.0.

Same as me (quelle surpris! Morning, Sarah!)

Though I'm peering at it now through Nextscape (as I like to call it!) Navigator and still have the tags - less than usual though (maybe I've actually caught up for once?)

Riiight. So the only way to get the tags to show properly is if you read the messages with the oldest new post first? That's.... daft.

I demand my right to read in random order! I don't always have the time to catch up on everything so head for what looks like the most interesting thread with new posts first and worry about the rest later, or I would if there was any way of seeing what I'd left for later. I can't even try to remember what time it was when I last looked because it will differ from thread to thread. (Browser = Mozilla 1.4)

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh sugarplumfaries.

I read threads in a random order and the 'new' tags work OK (mostly). I use Netscape.

The 'new' tags have random ways of reappearing and disappearing for me - generally because I use the 'Back' button when I've read a thread, and then pressing 'Refresh' when I want to check which ones I've read. This had a tendency to confuse poor IE at times...

The new tags used to misbehave all the time when I was using IE. Things are greatly improved now I've switched to using Safari, but every so often it still 'forgets' about some threads I've read -- easily fixed by quitting and then relaunching the browser.

All tags appear to be working fine and in good order(random or otherwise). I'm using IE for whatever that's worth(not much usually).

My only issue is the disappearing mouse and keyboard. I can type or I can use the mouse. Can't have both at the same time.

But I want both!!!(stamps foot)

I'm on IE as well and have never actually paid special attention to the "new" tags... Probably because I've had enough of a hard time getting my blondie head round the fforum itself. *lol*

Bluebottle, I myself have horrible problems with the new tags. But only in the Nextian Chat fforum. The other ones work fine. I had my browser blow up one day while reading the Fforum and now, even with installing a brand new version of Netscape, I'm still having the problems and I've cleared all the cookies and everything and it still happens.

The only time I get "new" icons in Nextian Chat is when I'm actually typing a reply in one topic and it returns me to the main list when I finish. But if I hit reload, the new icons are gone. It's bizarre, but I'm learning to live with it and I just go by the timestamp with the posts to know whether I've read it or not.

The tags are usually ok for me, but they've gone a bit random recently again - fine when I first go in, but as I read the threads (which I do in reverse order, as I get confused easy) sometimes they untag and sometimes they don't.

Barbie (sorry about the lateness of the post) for real time stuff, see my post a while ago entitled something like "ok, so for anyone who is interested", which concerns stuff like irc...

PSD - I'm (still) amazed - how do you manage to write so much???

Er, so much on 'how to use the fforum', or just the random tosh that I leave lying all over the place like cans on a Devon beach?

How did you write some much that was actually sensible? and how do you write so much tosh?

No worries, PSD, I did read your post, and it did help!
I was just confused by the general appearance. I think I've got so used to my regular forum that I needed some time to understand how things work here. I'll be ok, I'm sure.

HEY - I'm currently planning to include you lot in my Uni class, how's that for starters? *g* I'm not quite finished with the overall concept, but I sincerely hope you'll support me on this one, since I've still got a whole bunch of Germans to persuade to read the rest of the series. :-)

barbie - do you mind if i ask - why germans? Is there a particular lack of fforde fans in the country, or are you using it as a starting point for world domination?

nggy (can't think of anything interesting)

World domination sounds cool. *ggg*

But seriously: I'm German, live in Germany, go to a German university and hence to a class with even more German students, that should explain the Germans bit. Since Fforde has not as of yet been translated into our wonderful language (at least I'm unaware of any development in that field), it took a class at uni to bring the books to my attention and thus to the others, who seemd kinda reluctant to start reading it.
Maybe I should post something like "any more Germans around?" to check out if there is such a thing as a fan community in our lovely country. I doubt it. If there is, I bet they're all English students or in some other mysterious way connected to the Isles...
