I thought it was something like that, but had no idea how to spell it :)

I buy unsweetened peanut butter. Can't abide it with sugar.

Mmm, S'mores sound nice. I think I make something vaguely similar (well, in that it involves marshmallows and chocolate) by taking a chocolate digestive, sitting a marshmallow on it, sticking it in the microwave till it expands, and then squashing another choc digestive on top (choccy side in, obviously.) Scrummy, but very messy. Make sure you're using someone else's microwave.

Mmmm. Hungry now. Just had salad for lunch. (Well, and Worcester Sauce crisps. But no chocolate s'mores, which is the point.)

Dante, I doff my bobble hat to you as a token of my esteem! That is an absolutely brilliant idea - why on earth I hadn't thought of it before I don't know, but rest assured my microwave's going to be awash with chocolate digestive marshmallow sandwiches before the day's very much older. Thankyou!

And I do believe I have a slice of banana cake in the post to me too - and it's not even me birthday till April. Hoorah!

Er, thank you, but I don't think it was my idea originally. Someone I know showed me, but I can't remember who, so I might as well take the credit...

One point. Watch the microwave carefully, and stop it once the marshmallow has expanded to about the size of a small digestive biscuit. Do not let the marshmallow explode. (Yes, this is the voice of experience.)

And eat some for me :o)

Ooh, smores. Graham cracker, melty chocolate and squishing marshmallow!!

Very messy, very good and so much fun to make. Marshmallow should be slightly burned for full effect.

yes, the marshmallow should be toasted over open wood flame...or nice glowing embers...allowed to get all nice and brown on the outside, and allowed to soften greatly on the inside, but not enough to fall off the roasting stick. Then at the very last second, set it alight then blow it out immediately.

Squash between 2 graham crackers that have a piece of Hershey bar in there. Must use Hershey though. Yes, it is crap chocolate, but has excellent melting properties and the prerequisite amount of vanilla flavoring to balance the heartiness of the graham. If you're gonna do it, ya might as well do it right!

Nearly everytime we Barbeque, I have to roast marshmallows. I also like to make s'mores with Nilla wafers. I'm not the biggest fan of graham, but I do like them for s'mores.

By the way, for those of you wondering, the name "s'mores" comes from the contraction of "I want some more" as they're addictive little blighters!

Does anyone know of a vegetarian version? Marshmallows, since they contain gelatine, are unsuitable for vegetarians. :-(

One of my lecturers used to maintain that vegetarians should be committed...

During field trips his catering ethic could be summed up by the phrase: "Don't eat meat? Well, there's a hedge: go and forage."

If the gsd didn't want people to eat animals, why did he/she make them out of meat?

Which reminds me of the 'Reluctant Cannibal' song by Flanders and Swann.

"If the Juju had meant us not to eat people, he wouldn't have made us of meat!"

...in my "vegetarian" (wasn't full vegetarian, still ate fish. Fish are so ugly, that they do not deserve it any better) period i used to say:

"I'm not vegetarian because I love animals. It's just that I really hate plants"

Sarah,

Look for kosher marshmallows. They're not made with gelatin. You may only be able to find them around passover time.

Kosher marshmallows - wow, thanks, Nicky! It's just possible I may be able to get those. My local supermarket sells special Passover matzos at the appropriate time of year.
