Lack of Humour Loses Kitten Potential Job

ACK!

My lack of a sense of humour (which is well documented by this stage) has leapt up to bite me in the throat in the world of Job Seeking.

I applied for a copy writing job which attracted my attention because it specified that along with the job application, a picture of a favourite toy or a joke or something was to be included (it was a kids tiy manufacturer).

I think I may have over thought it.

After deciding that I didn't want to go with a toy (after agonising whether 'Draw-And-Quarter Me Elmo' was appropriate) I went with a joke.

BIG mistake.

I spent ages trying to remember a vaguely amusing *clean* joke that didn't sound too weird to anyone who wasn't me, I went with an admittedly lame pun-onna-joke.

Today I recieved this in the email...

"Hi Sarah

Yes you are right, that joke was terrible!

Thank you for taking the time to provide your details to *** Creative Placements. We have had strong response to our recent advertisements. Your application has been considered against the clients requirements and other candidates. Unfortunately you have not been successful in progressing for this particular role.

I wish you all the best on your job seeking and thank you again for your interest."

It must have been the joke.

Or maybe that I wasn't qualified for the position.

Either way...

Don't beat yourself up, Kitten - anyone who enjoys Jasper's books has to have a highly developed sense of humour.

So, what was the joke?

Oh, I appreciate jokes, don't get me wrong. I'm just not good at them myself.

Joke was appalling though.

I say I say I say, my Dog has no dictionary.
How does he spell terrible?

Hmmmm....... sounds like you are a bit too evolved for them. That is quite a sophisticated joke. They probably didn't get it!

Their loss Kitten hon!

Agreed.

I like that joke.

Yep, pretty good joke.

You're obviously too good for them. Find an employer worthy of your talents.

That's a brilliant joke, albeit of a form of meta-humour...maybe not the greatest joke for kids, though? Then again, maybe I was just too easily amused by all the really old, really simple jokes when I was little.

Still am amused by all the really old jokes, actually. One of the reasons I read Rankin.

heehee, Rankin rocks.

And no, it's not brilliant, but I still like it!

<Laps up attention>

Nice joke and their loss.

(I am not sure that you would be safe around kids toys, copy-writing, though. Perhasps an arms manufacturer should be your next target?)

Hands Kitten the "sleeping on XM's head" rota.

We can squeeze you in for next Wednesday.

Preferred positions include

1. Taking over the whole pillow and pushing occupant off completely
2. Draping yourself over occupant's head with paws touching nose

<refrains from making dirty joke, as is quite touched that your cats would be willing to let someone else on their pillow.>

oh they'd let a guest cat in.

It's just humans that don't get to use the pillows...............

if your cats only take the pillow you're lucky. One of mine used to get under the covers, get comfy and then stretch at which point I'd either be pushed into the wall or out of bed....

I liked your joke but I now really want a Draw and quarter me Elmo. You should have gone with that.

<snort>

I'd totally buy one. But it might seriously traumatize my niece to see Elmo come all apart.

... Ack!

Now I'm *really* worried... I seem to have been accepted for a job I'm not qualified for and have NO idea how to do!

Hello! I've finally joined the forum! Yayay!
My first post EVER!

The Elmo idea reminds me- I went to a party in Belgrave earlier this year and there was a pinata-Elmo, by the end there were small fragments of limbs and a decapitated head. It was an unusual idea. Possibly not designed for kiddies.

I'm sure your new job will be fine!
