Fforde's next novel:
Spring 2011

One of Our Thursdays
is Missing

Thursday2 and Porsche
Ready to take on the bookworld, one lentil bake at a time

It is a time of unrest in the Bookworld. All-out Genre war is rumbling between Racy Novel and Outdated Ecclesiastical Dogma, and the Council of Genres are worried that a Feminist/Dogma alliance may push Bedroom Farce and Bawdy Romp to side with Racy Novel, and thus precipitate a war that could tear apart the Bookworld and leave Feminism, Racy Novel and Ecclesiastical Dogma unfunny for decades.

At times like this, the Bookworld needs a Thursday Next like no other. But with the real Thursday apparently retired to the Realworld, there is only one Thursday left in fiction: The written Thursday Next, happily working through her four books in a quiet area of Fantasy, and occasionally taking assignments for Jurisfiction's Accident Investigation Division.

She has problems of her own. Between mentoring characters in new novels and trying to come to grips with the inability to measure up to the real Thursday, she is investigating a novel that has suffered an in-read breakup, depositing a narrative debris-field all the way from Wings to No Highway. It's not as straightforward as it first appears. Someone has ground off the ISBN numbers from the wreckage to foil identification, and no-one can find the Black Box Narrative Data Recorder.

With her clockwork butler Flashback, the Oxford-educated Pickwick and 'Slam' Dunkk, her unwelcome yet officially designated Love Interest, Thursday has to get to grips with her inability to match up to her Namesake's talent, and prove herself once and for all to Jurisfiction.

It might come sooner than she thinks. The Council of Genres want her to pretend to be the real Thursday, and travel as a peace-keeping emissary to the warring factions. A trip up the mighty Metaphoric river beckons, a trip which will reveal a fiendish plot that threatens the very fabric of the Bookworld itself..

Published in Spring 2011 in both the UK and the USA. Launch will be accompanied by extended tours in both territories.
