Maybe you could try using natural Marshmallows rather than artificial ones... Didn't the term originally refer to sweets made from some portion (maybe starchy swellings, for overwinter, energy-storage, in the roots?) of the Marsh Mallow bush?

(Yes, there really is a "Marsh Mallow" plant, it's a perennial shrub that grows in wet soils: I've seen some, by a lakeside, in a nature reserve here in West Sussex...)

I've now tried some more of the recipes for peanut-butter sandwiches that were mentioned earlier in this thread:

PB, black pepper, & [shredded] spring onion = rather nice.
PB, black pepper, & watercress = rather nice (& probably doesn't "need" the pepper, as the watercress tends to smother it anyway...)
PB, Worcestershire sauce, & bean sprouts = not bad, although in my opinion not as good as either of those other recipes.
