No, faience is a sort of self glazing clay. The egyptians used to use it a lot to make jewellery, Ushabti etc. Only they called it Inr-n-wdh.
There's another sort of faience which is basically tin-glaze (like delftware).
Wikipedia says "Egyptian faience was not made of clay but rather of a ceramic composed primarily of quartz."
