Yes, but if you don't have any competition your puns might get less dreadful for want of a standard of comparison, and that would never do. ;-)

This afternoon I realised that one of the items on David's website (a rather stunning outerwear bodice by Diki) would not look out of place in a posh Goth shop. Now try saying "posh Goth shop" a few times, really quickly.

Yes, it is, isn't it? :-D

Skiffle _ I've just checked in my local library. West Sussex currently have seven of your westerns, including both "Darrow" ones... I've borrowed the only one that was actually on the shelves here at the moment, 'San Felipe Guns'... Its hero is named Paul Hallam, and even though I'm a southerner I know that "Hallamshire" is an old name for the area around Sheffield.
How many copies of your books do people have to borrow from libraries before the 'Public Lending Right' system pays you anything worth noticing?

Writers get 2.67 pence per loan, with a minimum payout of £5. The government finally put the pot last year, up from £5 million to £7 million, twenty five years after it was first set. Still, better late than never...

I don't have access to my records, so I can't check the exact figures, but the more borrowings the better :)

Claire is under instruction to obtain some next time she visits the library. And I did notice on the website the creative use of Sheffieldian (?) localities as character names ... Rivelin, for instance. Got a Ringinglow in there, and if not, why not?

Jon.

Congrats on spotting Sheffield connexion in character names. You're the first person to get it, or at least tell me so.

Prize for first person to correctly list Sheffield connexion in all nine Westerns.
Titles are:
Rocking W
The Paducah War
The Horseshoe Feud
Darrow's Law
Cullen's Quest
San Felipe Guns
Darrow's Word
Hyde's Honour
Navajo Rock.

Dunno what the prize is yet. It could be a personal dedication in 'Darrow's Badge'. Or perhaps something you'd actually like.

Do I spot a cvunning ruse to boost payments from library borrowings here?

Would I sink to something as low as that ?

For all I know, you might just have flipped through them in the library without going to the trouble of actually borrowing them.

Damn ! What did I go and suggest that for ?

another 2.67p down the drain.

I keep meaning to have a proper look at the site, really I do. I've got the URL in my favourites list.

Werll, it turns out that the library service only has one Skiffle title; three copies of Darrow's Word, none of them in my local branch. I have reserved a copy. So that's another GBP0.2.67 in the kitty. (Though why money should be kept in a cat, rather than a bank, I'm sure I don't know).

I never actually keep money in my cats. However, if I left it near Chomsky, it would probably end up inside him. That cat will eat practically anything, being, I think, simply too lazy to work out in advance what is and what is not edible.

Last week he ate a daffodil and was immediately sick. I rest my case.

A friend of mine once dog-sat an incredibly stupid animal called Suzie, for a mate of his. (Who just happened to be Dad of the drummer in Def Leppard).
Suzie once picked up a plum, ate it and spat out the stone. She looked at the stone thoughtfully, then picked that up and swallowed it....

whoever coined the phrase "put the money in the kitty" must have had medically challenged cats! I know how that works!

(the two siblings have asthma...yes, cats with asthma!, one had urine crystal blockage requiring surgery, one had fangs grow out the front of her lips requiring surgery, one had Inflamatory Bowel Disease and required frequent hospitalization in his last days, and one was expensive to start with and then had chronic diarrhea due to a bacterial overgrowth in his gut - and you thought YOU had problems!)

Asthma? Maybe they're allergic to cats?

It's possible! Supposedly, it is due to allergies. Poor Scooter gets hayfever like you wouldn't believe! We actually share a lot of the same allergies...various pollens, mold, etc. Odd, eh. (And I actually AM allergic to cats! LOL )

Had to take Skiffle (that's my cat, not me, you understand) to the vet a couple of years ago when she had cystitis. I put her into a carrier and we travelled by bus. She wailed mournfully all the way.

sounds like eddie on the way to nursery this morning. Not that he was in a carrier, I hasten to add, he was in his car seat.

Much the same thing to a 2-year old, I'd imagine. He woke up in a right strop with the world. Sometimes I wish I could get up and have a right go about everything. It must be nice to be 2 and have no inhibitions.

Question: Slow views day? There's nobody about again, or are you all stuck waiting for trains (I love train strikes - Thames Trains run them anyway, and to hell with the safety issues, everyone else doesn't so we have the tracks to ourselves and everything runs to time - meaning loads of people missed the train this morning as it left five minutes early - or 'on time' according to the timetable - and there wasn't all that scrabbling for seats next to people who look fairly normal (or in my case, attractive - I'm still hoping)).
