16) Is it one of those motorized skateboards/scooters/whatever those durn kids are calling it these days? No. Not even distantly.
17) Is it a tank (They have wheels inside the tracks)? No.

Around question 4 and 5 I thought that the lot of you were heading straight for the answer, but somehow you went astray. By now I feel obliged to hint that I took two or three questions very literally in answering.

Do gears count as wheels? In which case is it a bicycle? (You may count these as one or two questions.)

18) Is it a bicycle? No.

I'll treat "Do gears count as wheels?" as a subspecification of question 5. No, they don't. But the question was, in a certain way, more to the point than you may think. You're back on track.

Does it usually have 4wheels?

0) Primarily mineral, but may contain vegetable and even animal elements.
1) Would it fit inside the average bread box? No.
2) Does it have moving parts? Yes, definitely.
3) Is it electric/electronic? Not necessarily (somewhat depending on its age).
4) Is it a form of transport? Yes.
5) Does it have at least 3 wheels? Yes. Gears do not count as wheels. Other wheels do.
6) Is it normally found on roads? No.
7) Is it found on farms? No. Chickens and eggs are found on farms.
8) Does it need rails? No.
9) Can it fly? No.
10) Is it usually used by a person with a disability? No.
11) Is it a shopping trolley? No.
12) Is it a pram? No.
13) Can it be folded up? No.
14) Does it normally have an engine? Yes!
15) Is it a lawnmower (the ones with seats)? No. No lawnmower whatsoever.
16) Is it one of those motorized skateboards/scooters/whatever those durn kids are calling it these days? No. Not even distantly.
17) Is it a tank (They have wheels inside the tracks)? No.
18) Is it a bicycle? No. But in a certain way a bicycle bears some resemblance to the item sought for.
19) Does it usually have 4wheels? No. Five wheels is more typical for it.

I added some more hints in the list above.

May I repeat that I took some questions very literally, especially the one that deluded you most; but I don't tell you which one it is because that will give away it immediately. One more hint: I took this cheat from one of Jasper's books.

Presumably where we're slipping up is in our definition of 'wheel'.

I suspect these wheels are steering us into a blind alley (which is not a road.)

Appropriate, because I'm at a dead end, probably because I've been sitting down for too long.

... a bit like the spinning wheel of fortune...

<laughing> I thought you all would finish this up and probably 2 more games while I was sleeping through some vacation time.

I like the updated 5:
"5) Does it have at least 3 wheels? Yes. Gears do not count as wheels. Other wheels do."

Wheels are wheels! Yay! <giggle>

I notice there are no hints for 4, the "transport" question. So, pondering what could be transported by a 5 wheeled thing. Hmmm. It has an engine. Wondering if all 5 wheels have to touch the ground while being a transport. OK, so a "steering wheel" is a wheel. That would work for a car except cars are usually found on roads.

Its kind has been around long enough to now have electronic parts but originally did not.

Not even distantly related to a skateboard. Kinda resembles a bicycle. Maybe sorta.

Wish there were a couple more questions left before #20, regarding how common this thing is, or expensive, or does it matter if it's red...

Last time I looked, a spinning wheel had 2 wheels, and I've never seen one with electronics. Or an engine... spinning wheels in my head now.

Wheelchair is out, as is a desk chair. Ugh. I'm going to have to think some more, quietly.

Wrong interpretation, though admittedly my statement is ambiguous. I can't explain better than you did yourself:

Okay, I give them for free: Uncommon (with one exception). Therefore priceless. Color is completely irrelevant (except in aforementioned exception where it is essential).

unfortunately, the originals c*rs had electrical components and so cannot be the answer. They are found on roads, so if that is what VM is alluding to, D has already ruled it out.

I think Delacuesta will win this one. I propose that we present (?) her with a pair of shoes of her choice.

<Thinks. do we need a m/f/u/t classification for our profiles?>
I can always add it to the birthday list

Speaking of "essential", I see now that the answer to question 14 should be put more strongly: An engine is essential.

Edit: I didn't see Skidmark's mail while writing mine.

Answer 4 also leaves open the possibility that it moves other things while being stationary itself. Unfortunately all I can think of right now in this category and having wheels is a conveyor belt, which does not seem to fit...

A pump with typically five wheels...hmmm...

THANK YOU Annie. Even if you are wrong (although I think it's a good guess) I can quit thinking about it! <grin>

I was headed toward something with a conveyor belt, but couldn't get that far, that's why I was thinking aloud (well you know what I mean). Glad PrinzHilde pulled that string a little further.

Skids: "<Thinks. do we need a m/f/u/t classification for our profiles?>" What is "u" or "t"? The other part would sometimes be useful, although some people have kindly self-id'd themselves. But if you gave me a frilly pair of girly shoes I wouldn't know what to do with them, even though yes I fit in the "f" category.

<note to self: Don't ask delacuesta for any more hints> <grin>

off to pass out from paint fumes, now...
