The duct tape joke can't stand - I had to make it a hens egg when the tricky question of "is it an insect?" came up.

I'm not surprised you don't want the win - the question of "is it something you would expect to find in the average house?" brought back the terrible memory of my Mother turning up unexpectedly for lunch and requesting a boiled egg. We didn't have any to boil and the shame of my poor housekeeping skills being so brutally exposed may never leave me.

I feel really sorry for you Geg. This must have been a truly traumatic experience. But remember: However big a problem appears to be, it may - after it's all over - turn out to be quite easy.

Okay, I volunteer.

0) Primarily mineral, but may contain vegetable and even animal elements.

I do have to object to the reference to the recent "discovery" about which came first. The reports appear to be relying on a rather poor understanding of the science involved. The blog Pharyngula has a brief takedown:
[scienceblogs.com]

(By the way, this blog also tends to discuss controversial issues regarding religion in a way that may be very offensive to some. I'm not trying to promote the whole blog here, just the one posting.)

1) Would it fit inside the average bread box?

I know, I know, its not a very original question, but I'm still reeling from the shock that you can't believe everything you read in the Daily Mail.

Agreed. But everything depends on one's definition of "egg". The usual thing with a calcium shell evolved by a certain process from a thing without a shell. Therefore the animal that produced an egg-with-shell for the first time (whether chicken or predecessor) came first. That is the mere argument.

I'm wishing I'd had time to read this earlier, I could have used the giggles!

I don't care which came first, either is tasty. I'm just glad we have both!

I was not certain I knew the answer, which is why I asked one more question. Also, then someone else gets to be "it". I don't want to hog all the fun of being "it". (Whew, got out of that one!)

geg, I'm glad you got to ask that wonderful question! Yay! (grin) and I hope you recover from your shock soon.

Does it have moving parts?

Does it have more than 1 wheel?

Even though it's highly probably that someone names the thing before we're halfway through to the 20th, I still would like to play fair and ignore the previous question.

If it has at least three, it ought to have more than one -- or algebra must have changed drastically since I left school.

Sorry, I was on the Fforum while writing a report for work and misread it as less than rather than at least. I am not capable of multi-tasking, it seems. (see also define that word)

Not sure I can focus on this multi wheeled transport issue until we've got this whole chicken/egg thing sorted out.

Surely the first thing to be a true chicken (whatever your DNA definition might be) must have been created by a genetic mutation of a not-quite-a-chicken,

Meaning the egg must have come first?

I don't understand how the calcium/DNA discovery enlightens us. What have I missed?

6) Is it normally found on roads?

6) Is it normally found on roads? No.

<Geg, as stated in previous posts, it is the definition of "chicken" and "egg" that makes the answer. In your definition, egg came first. In my definition, protochick came first>
