13 Is it a catalogue? No

Since that's a clear "No," I'll expand a little on question 10.

10a Does it usually consist of one sheet of paper? Yes

OK, I contracted instead.

12 Does it entitle you to a product or a service rendered? Yes
11 Is it a menu? No
10 Does it usually consist of one sheet of paper/card folded in half? No
09 Is it an 'expiring' or periodical publication? Yes
08 Is it commercially produced? Yes
07 Is it printed matter? Yes
06 Is it a t.v. listings magazine? No
05 Is it a specific title of book/periodical/whatever? No
04 Is it used primarily for reference? No
03 Is it a Timetable? No
02 Is it a book, magazine, pamphlet, or anything in that general category of papery bearers of information? Yes
01 Is it damaged by water? Yes

Is it a ticket (theatre, sport, train)?

14 Is it a ticket (theatre, sport, train)? No

14a That's "no" to the general category implied , meaning that "no" to "train ticket" means "no" to tickets such as boat, plane, camel caravan, hovercraft and the new genetically modified people-mover Giant Red Squirrel, adapted for high-octane acorn diet.

Question 15, as refinement for #12 "Does it entitle you to a product or a service rendered? Yes "

Is one expected to pay for this entitlement? I'm thinking that this is something that you may have signed up for, requested, or similar, but did not have to pay for.

15 Is one expected to pay for this entitlement? Yes

15a (See 08a )
08a It costs money. If it didn't cost you money, someone else paid money and gave it to you.

12 Does it entitle you to a product or a service rendered? Yes
12a Another tricky one, where the answer is much more (but not completely) yes than no. It's not a voucher, coupon or receipt.
12b It's not named a voucher, coupon or receipt - any more than a newspaper is named a book.

17 Is it a driver's licence? No

I still have the item on my desk, but overnight its value changed. It's now worthless. I may not buy another for a while.

Most mystifying. It consists of one printed sheet of paper and costs money. It is itself neither money nor a voucher etcetera, but still it represents a value that entitles you to products or services (either as a value or as a discount, I presume). After a certain date or time lapse it expires and becomes worthless.

Most things that come to my mind are vouchers of any kind, which have ruled out as such. On the other hand, answer 12b might imply that it has roughly the same function as a voucher but is shaped and/or named quite differently.

I'll have to digest this. I'll be back with a next question in due course.

Both 12b and 14a merit discussion, but I'm gambling that after the answer is know it will be agreed that my replies were as accurate as possible.

lottery ticket?

18 lottery ticket? Yes

"A tax receipt for the mathematically challenged,” or "Stupid Tax" would have been acceptable answers.

The Sceptre is in the post, and the pawn ticket for the crown is in the same package.

Question 18 part b -

If your lottery ticket had been the big prize winner, would you have shared with us? (grin)

That was a good one. Did you buy the ticket with what you got from the pawn shop for the crown?

Virtually everyone could have had a share. I'd probably have donated a new wing to the Treehouse. The MistyCat Wing and CatFlap.

Funny you should mention the source of funds for the lottery ticket. Even after I'd scraped the green bits off the Crown, Uncle would only front up with just enough for one ticket.

annie, I hope you agree with my "no" to "Is it a ticket (theatre, sport, train)?" I felt that a "yes" to that specific question would have been misleading.

I quite agree, my "ticket" meant a permit to travel or to be entertained.
I rarely find lotto tickets perform those functions.

During my lunch break I handed my most recent lotto ticket to the shop assistant with the question "Am I going home now, or at five?" Needless to say, I am still at work...

O.T.
Breaking News Flash!

When I said that my lottery ticket (price: NZ$2.00) had become worthless, it was because the drawing date had passed and I automatically assumed lack of success. I hadn't actually checked the ticket. Today I checked, and I've won $7.00.
I've tucked the $5.00 away securely and splurged the remaining $2.00 on a new ticket. Roll on Saturday! The possibility of wealth beyond my wildest dreams.
Or not.
