Sorry, 1700 approx/thereabouts. I was thinking about Al 2 O3. Long time since I have had to calculate exact chemical properties and melting temperatures!

Anyway eutectics have their uses ^_^

I use fine ground silica, 300-350 mesh (not sure of the micron though, ceramist chemistry is never that accurate!).

Amusingly the local supplier stocks amorphous silica, I asked them once how and why but they didn't know. Maybe I should buy some and see if it has magical properties...

I am a big fan of:magnesium, titanium, cobalt, calcium, ferrous material, copper, zinc and I like gerstley borate and spodumene because of their names!
I thought they were being left out, having only mentioned silica.

gerstley borate sounds so fun so please no explanations (robert!)

I'm fairly certain that *all* the silica is amorphous- because it's not crystalline.

Well, actually I think it does have a structure of a sort, but yes I know what you mean ^_^

I just don't see the point of Clayworks stocking it!
